Stop Training People.
Start Transforming Them

John McCarthyJOHN MCCARTHY | President, AGI MANAGEMENT & THE PURPOSE PROMISE

In today’s partnership economy, employees don’t just need more information—they need the ability to process, interpret, and apply it wisely. Yet most training programs are still built for an industrial age where knowledge transfer was enough.

This session challenges Learning & Development practitioners to rethink their role—not as content deliverers, but as designers of transformation.

Drawing on emerging workforce trends and the evolving psychology of work—where purpose, growth, and meaning now outweigh compensation for many employees —this session introduces a practical framework for moving people:

Information → Knowledge → Discernment → Wisdom → Transformation

Participants will explore how to embed metacognition, critical thinking, and real-life application into their training programs—and how to tie it directly into performance management, retention, and career growth.

This is not just about better training.

It’s about building organizations where people grow as humans—and perform as a result.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Reframe Their Role

  • Shift from content delivery → transformation design
  • Understand why traditional training fails in the modern workforce

2. Apply the Transformation Continuum

  • Teach learners how to move:
  • Information → Knowledge (critical thinking)
  • Knowledge → Discernment (values + reflection)
  • Discernment → Wisdom (application + lived experience)

3. Introduce Metacognition into Training

  • Equip employees to “think about their thinking”
  • Build self-awareness as a leadership competency

4. Design Training That Sticks

  • Integrate reflection, discussion, and application loops
  • Move from event-based learning → habit-based growth

5. Connect Learning to Retention & Performance

  • Align development with intrinsic motivation (Maslow, purpose, belonging)
  • Build systems that reinforce growth (not just inspire it)

6. Embed Accountability into Growth

  • Turn learning into behavioral change through:
  • Coaching
  • Metrics
  • Follow-up rhythms
