Arlene BakerQ: Tell us a little about yourself

I have been in the payroll field for over 40 years and 20 of those years have included a training position. Besides being a member of GCATD, I am a member of the American Payroll Association. I have lived in the area most of my life except for six years in Georgia when my husband was transferred for work. I currently live in Fairfield Township with my husband, Eddie, a Springer Spaniel named Sadie, and two parakeets, Doney and Coachy. I have two children and five grandchildren that keeps us entertained and busy.

Q: Share details about your role with Paycor

Paycor is a company that focuses on HR and Payroll technology, I have been with Paycor for over 25 years and held multiple positions in management and learning. My role with the Learning and Development team has encompassed a wide range of duties including design and facilitation of training programs for internal associate and clients on compliance and applications. In my recent role as Principle Tax Instructor, I was able to develop a training program for a new department that planned to assist associates and clients on tax compliance.

Q: What is it you enjoy most about being in a learning role

I love having a sense of accomplishment when I see others grow and succeed. You can embrace what you do every day a when you know that you have contributed to your organization. In this amazing role you find yourself involved in more than just training, you become the connection to the company for new hires as they begin making a difference. In this role there is always change that keeps things very interesting and never bored!

Q: Tell me about your involvement with GCATD

I've become involved with GCATD in the last few years. I volunteered on the GCATD conference committee which lead to chairing the committee last year. I am now the VP of Membership. The role allows me to greet new members and sustain current members. This role also allows me to develop professionally by being part of building a chapter dedicated to the wishes of our members. Also, being on the board brings me in contact with amazing people that I can call my friends.

Q: What advice would you give to others interested in volunteering?

Do not hesitate, just do it! Volunteering allows you to grow and be of service to a great organization. It provides opportunities to meet others that have the same interest as you that normally you would not meet. It allows you to shine and make a difference personally and professionally.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

Besides spending time with my family and friends, my husband and I travel and explore antique stores and the city. When I can find some quiet time, I love to read and relax outdoors.
